The Marshall Road CARES Team is organizing our school’s participation in the 2018 Pennies for Patients campaign, a service-learning opportunity for students to fundraise in support of the work of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Students who participate in Pennies for Patients learn the importance of helping others and contribute to the research for cures and therapies for people with blood cancer diseases. Early the week of February 5-9, Pennies for Patients donation boxes will come home, which families may use to collect pennies (or other monetary amounts) from their friends, neighbors, and personal contributions.
At International Night, Friday, February 9, the CARES Team will be selling bottled water for $1 each as well as accepting general donations for Pennies for Patients. Later on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14, they will also be selling lollipops for $1.
After collection boxes go home, in a reverse spirit week students have the opportunity to donate $1 each day (to be submitted to their teacher) in order to dress according to the daily theme:
February 12 – Sports Jersey/Shirt Day
February 13 – Twin Day (dress like a friend)
February 14 – Crazy Sock Day (wear outrageous or mismatched socks)
February 15 – Opposites Day (students dress like teachers and teachers dress like students)
February 16 – Pajama Day
In the closing week of the campaign, collection boxes not yet returned should be submitted to teachers with all donations. On Friday, February 23, the campaign ends with Stuck for a Buck Day, with students having the opportunity to contribute $1 to Pennies for Patients in order to stick favorite administrators and teachers to the cafeteria wall with duct tape.
Pizza parties will be awarded as a prize, one to a grade K-2 class and one to a grade 3-6, that raise the most donations. Let’s show how much our Marshall Road community cares for others!
