WITH BOWEN MCCAULEY DANCE
Award winning Bowen McCauley Dance (BMD) is celebrating over 15 years as a leading contemporary dance company in the Washington DC area. In addition to performing both locally and internationally Lucy Bowen McCauley and her dancers take their experience into schools, and the community with their Outreach programming. BMD presents age and developmentally-appropriate school programs created to foster an understanding and appreciation of dance and its relation to music. With its signature style, the company hopes to introduce and emphasize the joy and beauty of experiencing dance, stimulating imagination and creativity.
BMD brings STUDIO TO STAGE! to Marshall Road ES. In this afterschool art enrichment class students have fun through a dynamic, educational dance program. BMD professionals lead contemporary dance lessons that combine modern, ballet, & jazz to cultivate knowledge of body awareness, artistry, and elements of dance set to a variety of styles and music. Students learn about choreography and perform an original dance for parents on last day of class! (Another choice of sharing can be arranged)
Special Spring 2012 Session!!! Marshall Road ES has the special honor of being asked to participate in the 8th Annual Poetry of Music Fine Arts Project. The Fairfax Choral Society is offering this special collaborative opportunity to one elementary school, and two secondary schools. The theme this year is Shall We Dance? The idea is one that includes choral music, poetry and art in a collaborative effort to express an original poem in various art forms. Marshall Road students will co-choreograph (with instructor) and perform a short dance based on a poem that has been set to music. The ending result will be a concert on March 27, 2012 at 7pm in Annandale, Virginia.
Students who sign up for the spring session of STUDIO TO STAGE! will be participating in this event. Another performance will be held on April 28, 2012 in the afternoon (exact time to be determined) at the Kenmore Middle School (for Arts and Communications Technology). Please consider these dates when enrolling your student(s) for this session. His/her availability to attend these performances will be required. A mandatory dress rehearsal will be held March 26. (time to be determined)
