Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls in grades 3–6. New this year! Sixth graders can be a part of the GOTR experience!!
The program combines training for a 5k (3.1 mile) running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, and physical development.
The program uses an innovative and fun curriculum designed exclusively for pre-teen girls to address specific life skills through the use of games, warm-ups and workouts.
GOTR meets at MRES every Monday and Thursday from 7:45 to 8:50 am. The Head Coach is Ms. Kristen Luck (a MRES PE teacher). Parent volunteers welcome and encouraged, to help run the sessions. Please contact Ms. Luck at kjluck@fcps.edu if you are interested. The program begins on March 12th and the Spring NOVA GOTR 5k will be held on May 20th.
Online registration for the Spring 2012 Girls on the Run program will begin on February 21 via the official web site, www.gotrnova.org. As in seasons past, there will be an automated lottery for those schools that fill beyond capacity (20 girls).
