Every Fall and Spring the PTA coordinates with the school community and vendors to offer an array of Enrichment Programs which are held at the school.  This year the programs will only be available in the mornings before school. Here are some of the offerings already planned:

Fitness Warriors is a program that can help your child achieve better health, increase focus in the classroom, and have fun with their friends! During Fitness Warriors your Roadrunners become physically fit and enjoy structured fitness activities. They continue their journey of building Strong Minds, Strong Bodies and Strong Characters.

The Running with the Stars program involves students throughout Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. Participants train before school two times a week with a coach, typically a parent or teacher, to prepare for a 5K run/jog. This is a non-competitive activity where we encourage the kids to strive for their own personal best. Our goal is to promote overall health and an interest in exercise. Ultimately, the kids will have a great time being active with their friends and build confidence along the way. REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW AND THE FIRST SESSION STARTS ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH.  CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!

Spanish: Level 1: This class will provide an Introduction to Spanish language and culture. The instructor will use a variety of fun activities such as songs,  word search, coloring, writing words, and crafts to teach the children Spanish. The program is primarily oral. The basic goal is simple communication related to the child’s experience and exposure to the Spanish language and culture.

Chess Club: meets every other week on Tuesday in the MRES Cafeteria and is under the supervision of MRES staff. Students are partnered with other students to learn and practice this ancient board game.

3D PrintingStudents explore the process of developing 3D creations using the design cycle of brainstorming, prototyping and evaluating. This course, offered in conjunction with STEM exCEL, gives students design frameworks to turn their ideas into 3D models for a 3D printer. Students will learn about and observe how 3D Printing works, and will take home their own 3D models they created digitally in class.

The Minecraft Modding course teaches students how to solve problems in a multiplayer game while building and collaborating. Programming fundamentals are reinforced by STEM exCEL’s instructors through creating mods in Minecraft. Students will learn to advance their programming skills writing and implementing large scale Minecraft modifications.

2D Game Design:  Students learn to design and build their own game from the ground up, while learning 2D game art and programming logic with the engine’s integrated art software and easy-to-use events system, fit for beginners through advanced learners alike. Instructors from STEM exCEL help students develop games individually, so students have the freedom to create at their pace while focusing on their creative interests.

KidKeys, offered in conjunction with FineArtsMatters, uses color and tons of FUN to introduce students in K-3rd grade to the joy of playing the piano. Using the colorful Chroma-Notes™ system and Kodaly rhythm syllables, students quickly learn to read musical notation while they play familiar songs they will love to practice in class and at home. Each session ends with a Class Recital for family and friends that will leave everyone smiling!

Guitar class gives students in 3rd-6th grade the chance to get their hands on a ‘real’ guitar! Offered in conjunction with FineArts Matters, they provide the instruments for every child each week in class. Their experienced and degreed teachers do a great job with both beginning and advanced students (no experience is necessary). Each session includes a brand new set of fun songs to learn from a variety of styles ending with a Final Performance for family and friends!

Pix and Stix: Marshall Road is excited to offer a guitar and drum club again this year for 5th and 6th graders of any skill level.

Green Team: The goal of the Green Team is to spread awareness and discuss how to make our school a greener place while learning and having fun. The Green Team leads some exciting projects such as monitoring the amount of trash and recycle coming from various classrooms, collecting  food items for a local food bank, and working in the school garden.
