PTA Board 2017-18
The following members of the 2017-18 PTA Board were elected by the membership on June 2:
We have been a part of the Marshall Road community since 2014 and couldn’t be happier. I would like to serve as President of the PTA for the 2017-18 school year. My son will be in 4th grade and my daughter will be entering 1st. I am a native of Oakton, and have lived in North Carolina and California. Marshall Road is a wonderful school in a great town. The teachers, staff and administrators truly care about the students and their families. In the past several years I have served Marshall Road and the PTA as Vice President, room parent, classroom volunteer, co-chair of the directory, and chair of school supply box orders.
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia and a master of public administration from North Carolina Central University. I have worn a number of hats – housing counselor, high school admissions director, mom and wife, and preschool school teacher. This past year I worked at Marshall Road as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education. I am excited to continue to serve MRES for the 2017-18 school year!
Andrea Kramer – Vice President
Originally from California, I moved to DC for graduate studies and later to Vienna in 2009. My family has been part of the Marshall Road community since our son began kindergarten; he will be a sixth grader next year. We also have a daughter who will be a rising 4th grader. I look forward to serving our community as a Vice President in 2017-18.
I completed a B.A. in History at Brandeis University, a Master of Divinity degree at Washington Theological Union, and am a student again, pursuing part-time a PhD in public sociology at George Mason University. I have had an almost 20-year career in higher education, serving variously as a financial aid administrator, student services director, and campus minister at universities on both coasts. At MRES, I often contribute food or volunteer help for events and have previously served as a Room Parent, Teacher Appreciation Week chair, and most recently as PTA Treasurer. I have enjoyed serving on the PTA Board as an advocate for and supporter of our students’ needs, and I look forward to continuing to partner with others to strengthen our community.
Amanda DuFrayne – Vice President
I’m really excited to serve on the PTA Board for the 2017-2018 school year! My family joined the MRES community when our older daughter started kindergarten this year and, with a two-year-old daughter right behind her, we will be part of MRES for many years to come. I want to join the Board to be more involved in the great work the PTA does to make MRES a terrific place for our kids and our community. My goal is to make being involved in the PTA less daunting as we all work to juggle the demands of busy schedules, and very much look forward to getting to know and working with as many members of this community as I can!
I’m a Florida native, went to school in Chicago, and moved to the DC area right after graduation to start working for the federal government. We took a break from the Beltway to live in Kentucky for a few years, but love this area so much that we came back in 2012 and settled in Vienna. My husband and I are the proud parents of two beautiful girls, and share our home with two goofy dogs.
Laura Parker – Treasurer
I am excited to support the MRES community as the PTA treasurer for 2017-2018. Born and raised in Central New York, I have spent many years in academic environments while going to school in New York and Pennsylvania. Like many people in this community, I came to the area for a job opportunity and have ended up living in the area for almost 20 years now. I am the parent of a rising 3rd grader and have been interested in becoming more active in the MRES community since my daughter started kindergarten at Marshall Road in 2014.
I have a degree in chemistry and manage technology research and development programs for the federal government. In this capacity, I have experience in budgeting, planning, and communicating strategies for long-term programs. I look forward to contributing to the vibrant activities the MRES PTA has build up and maintained over the years.
Helen Lee – Secretary
I look forward to serving on the MRES PTA Board for the 2017-2018 school year. This is my (and my son’s) first year at MRES and we are excited to finally join this community. We came to the Vienna/Fairfax area 5+ years ago and stayed because we found it to be a wonderful place to raise a family. Prior to that, I came to DC for law school, studied art history in undergrad in New York City, and spent my youth in South Florida (where I was born and raised). I currently work as a government attorney for the Federal Government and, along with my husband, continuously strive to seek the optimal balance between full-time jobs and raising our two beautiful children. I am excited for this opportunity to serve the MRES community and hope to give back to it as much as I know I will receive from it.Anna Moore: President email@example.com Andrea Kramer: 1st Vice President firstname.lastname@example.org
